These Air Fryer Burgers come out juicy and flavorful, yet are so easy to make! You can have these on the table in less than 30 minutes, for a meal the whole family will enjoy.
Made with just a handful of ingredients, this is a recipe for those extra busy weeknights. Serve on buns for a quick and simple, yet special dinner.
Burgers in the air fryer
- This recipe is so unbelievably quick and easy to make – it’s perfect for those busy weeknights, or makes a great dinner recipe for beginner cooks.
- The seasoning of the burger patties can be switched up to suit your family’s taste. I have included our favorite seasonings, but feel free to switch it up to use what your family likes best.
- I have included suggestions to juggle cooking fries to serve with your burgers for dinner in the post below, and our favorite toppings to serve the burgers on buns.
Ingredients you’ll need
Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for quantities!
Ingredient notes
- Ground beef: 80/20 beef will yield juicier burgers, but I have also tried these with 90/10 beef and they were perfectly fine. Brushing them with ketchup or BBQ sauce definitely helps to keep them from drying out!
- Seasoning: The seasoning added is what I love in burger patties. Nothing is mandatory (I know the parsley especially is highly personal, as I have had endless discussions about it with family members ?) and if you prefer your burger patties seasoned with just salt and pepper, you are absolutely free to do so!
- Ketchup/BBQ sauce: I highly recommend using this to keep the burgers from drying out, and to add a little extra flavor. If you don’t like ketchup or BBQ sauce at all, at the very least brush your burgers with a little vegetable oil.
How to make Air Fryer Burgers
This is a walk-through of the recipe with step photos. Skip to the printable recipe card at the bottom for exact times and temperatures.
1. Combine the meat and seasoning in a bowl and divide into four equal parts.
2. Shape each part into a patty, making and indention in the middle to prevent shrinkage.
3. Place the patties into the preheated air fryer basket and brush each with ¼ teaspoon of ketchup or BBQ sauce. Air fry for 6 minutes.
place in air fryer brush with sauce flip brush with more sauce, then finish cooking
4. Flip the burgers, brush with more sauce and then finish air frying for another 2-3 minutes, until the burgers are done.
To make cheeseburgers
If you want to make cheeseburgers, immediately place a slice of cheese on each burger patty once they are done and allow to sit in the turned off air fryer for 1-2 minutes, until melty.
Recipe tips
- Make sure to fully incorporate the spices into the meat, to ensure even seasoning of all patties.
- On the other hand, only mix as long as needed. If you overwork the meat mixture, the burgers may come out too crumbly.
- Do not skip making an indention in each patty, it really does help to keep the patties from shrinking too much.
- The patties tend to thicken and shrink a little during cooking, so do not be afraid to make them about 4.5 inches in diameter.
- Make sure to temperature check your burger. FoodSafety.gov recommends a minimum internal temperature of 160°F.
Can you cook fries at the same time?
Unfortunately, you can’t. There simply isn’t enough space in the air fryer.
If you want to cook fries in your air fryer to go with the burgers, I recommend making the fries first (they take about 20 minutes, vs the burger’s 10 minutes). Spread the fries on a baking sheet and keep them warm in a 170°F (75°C) oven (or on a “keep warm” setting, or on the lowest heat setting available) until the burgers are done.
Serving ideas
You can obviously serve these as hamburger steaks (with mushroom gravy!), in lettuce wraps or just as patties with some salad.
But we most love these assembled as actual burgers – on buns with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles.
I warm the buns in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes right after the burgers are done, then assemble with sauce, salad and toppings to serve!

Air Fryer Burgers
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ teaspoon ground paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley optional
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons ketchup OR BBQ sauce
- 4 slices cheese optional
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes on hottest setting.
- In the meantime, combine all ingredients EXCEPT for ketchup in a medium mixing bowl.
- Divide beef mixture into 4 equal parts and shape each into a ~4½ inch patty, making an indention in the middle with your thumb to prevent too much shrinkage.
- Carefully place burger patties into hot air fryer basket. Lightly brush the top of each with ketchup or BBQ sauce.
- Air fry at 370°F for 5 minutes. Flip burgers, brush other side with ketchup/BBQ sauce and then finish air frying for 3-6 minutes, until done.
- If using cheese, immediately place on cooked burger patties and place back in switched off air fryer for 1-2 minutes, until melty. Serve as desired – we like them on buns with all of the burger trimmings.
