Making asparagus in the air fryer is quick, easy and absolutely delicious! It comes out perfectly tender with a slight crispness on the outside, and even more flavor than traditionally roasted.
There’s nothing like asparagus in the spring! I grew up with grandparents farming asparagus for sale (they had a huge field and half of the village would come help with the harvest, ha!). Growing up, we always ate asparagus boiled though. Only through my husband did I learn how to roast asparagus, and what a life changing recipe!
But now with the ingenious air fryer… Asparagus has been taken up a notch yet again. This is by far my favorite way to prepare it now, so easy, quick and delicious!

Ingredient notes
- Parmesan cheese: I love adding this to my asparagus just as much as I love it with my air fryer broccoli! Feel free to leave it out if you want to make the recipe dairy free or don’t have any on hand. Using some lemon zest is a great alternative if you’re looking to add flavor without adding the cheese.
- Olive oil: This is my preferred oil to use on vegetables, but feel free to use the cooking oil you keep on hand in your kitchen.
- Asparagus: I prefer using medium-thick asparagus stalks for this recipe. Very thin ones quickly overcook in the air fryer in my experience, and very thick ones tend to be stringy. If you use quite thin asparagus, make sure to check on it often to make sure it doesn’t end up mushy and overdone!
How to cook asparagus in the air fryer
1. Start by trimming the ends off your asparagus stalks while your air fryer preheats for 5 minutes.
2. Toss the trimmed asparagus with the remaining ingredients to coat.
3. Place the asparagus in the hot air fryer basket, making sure to spread it out evenly.
4. Air fry until tender, remove from the air fryer and serve with more cheese, if you like.
Recipe tips
- Make sure to get the parmesan cheese mixed in well with the olive oil to coat the asparagus. Don’t just sprinkle it on, it will burn if you do.
- Check on the asparagus a few times as it cooks, this is a vegetable that moves between undercooked and overcooked quickly.
- The asparagus tastes amazing hot, but it’s also delicious warm with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing or even a white balsamic vinaigrette!
