Ingredients

Ground beef (traditional is actually lamb, but most readers use beef), beef broth, oil, red wine, flour, tomato paste, onions, garlic, carrots, celery, peas, herbs, cheddar cheese, salt, pepper and ground paprika.

Brown & sauté

Brown meat, then stir in diced vegetables and sauté until softened. Stir in seasoning and flour, then stir in tomato paste.

Make gravy

Deglaze the pan with red wine, then  add the broth, herbs and peas and simmer until thickened.

Finish & bake

Cool the filling in a casserole dish, then top with mashed potatoes and cheese and bake until golden and bubbly.
